The WBC champion of boxing’s smallest weight class – strawweight – announced back in June that he was planning to retire at 54-0, but reversed that decision and has now paid the price.
When Mayweather quit boxing with a 50-0 record three years ago, many made note of the fact he had outdone legendary heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano.
Marciano retired at 49-0 back in 1955 and it took 62 years for a champion to out-do his numerical achievement as they left the sport.
It hasn’t taken long for someone to top Floyd as Wanheng made it to 51-0 back in August 2018.
The 105lbs (7st 7lbs) champion progressed to 54-0 last October, but now, aged 35, he’s been beaten for the first time.
Panya Pradabsri is the new champion as he won by unanimous decision with all three judges scoring 115-113.
Mayweather’s detractors have previously mocked him over the situation and the American even hit back at these comments a few months ago.
