So ... Beholder Steam Game was recently launched on Steam (9 Nov 2016), after having purchased the game while it was on 20% discount ~ USD 8.40, I'd like to give some tips on how to make gameplay better!
Yes, stealing is very profitable, especially when you steal the medal from the Butcher ($2500), wines/alcohol fetch around $200-400), Arsenic will fetch $700 and is useful.
BUT, there's a catch: the police will come for you [**I think in total stealing 5-10 items will get you arrested once**]
First time being caught: You either pay $500 or 350 reputation points to get away.
Second time being caught: You pay with 750 Rep.
Third time being caught: Game ends.
Choose things to steal really carefully, its not worth it to steal a wallet ($20+) or letters ($3).
Looting is a BETTER alternative to stealing, gets you items without getting in trouble. How is it done? Keep reading!
A box will appear beside the 'blackmail' plant (where you get the blackmail money) at the ground level just beside Apartment 2, this contains all the apartment's items free for you to take.
How to get the box:
1) Report a criminal and have him arrested,
2) Box will appear UNTIL you repair the room (so loot the box before you repair the room).
Note: Item you reported for will disappeare.g. reported Sailor for jeans, jeans will not appear in box. So opt to report for cheaper options, refer to section 3 for a list of item prices e.g. blue jeans are worth a lot - $630!
CONS TO LOOTING:
1. Slow to get items
If you need something urgently, it might be better off stealing the item from the apartment rather than having them evicted.
2. You might need the person
Having people arrested before you complete their quest-line is often not beneficial.
1. Blackmailing gets you $1000 (but only once per item)
2. Reporting gets you a meagre $250.
Stock up early on blue ties, apples (you might want to buy some to save your Daughter later on), salt, jeans and other stuff from Nathan before they are illegal (i.e. cheap), after they become illegal they will net you a larger profit by using them to blackmail or evict for $250.
After they get arrested, you can then loot their house to get the stuff back, its not considered stealing. (TBC)

2. QUEST LINE
Go to the kitchen and swap a Level 1 camera for one of the Level 2 cameras there (preferably the right-side one as its not very useful)
Level 2 and Level 1 Cameras respectively. |
Beholder (2016) Full
For Mr and Mrs Ranek, I would use only Level 1 Cameras (maybe 2-3 in total only), because Mr Ranek is a government agent and you can't report him. (Note: This is important because you can't frame him either.)
Use the Level 2 camera you got from the kitchen to place it in Jacob Manishek's Room. (There is only one place to put the camera at this point, so a higher level one would be most effective)
In the beginning, only buy Level 1 cameras, because REP could be converted to money (which you will need a lot of). Rep is also useful when you get into potentially game-ending trouble.
1) Jacob Manishek
- Observe 2 pieces of information from his room @ apartment 2 - 'likes to gamble' and 'dangerous tendencies'.
- You could also observe him smoking/drinking to get a third tendency.

Beholder (2016) Movie
- After calling HQ, they will give you around 40hours to gather evidence from Jacob and report him.- Blackmail him once, to get $1000, then report him for another $250.
- After he gets arrested, a box containing his belongings will appear outside apartment 2.
2) Trust and Care
a) Saucepan
- Talk to Maria Schimmer
b) Doll
- Search the house, I found mine in the cupboard of the right room in the basement.
c) Economics book
- Talk to Mr. Schimmer OR
- Purchase from the merchant at ~2k
3) Ministry Order
a) Evict
Merely get the reward
b) Help him escape (confess what you are suppose to do to him)
Get more than the reward.
4) Doctor [Gives cruise tickets worth 5k]
Upon Evicting Jacob Manishek, I would rent both the Sailor and the Doctor together. Talk to the doctor and ask him about Mr Schimmer, he will give you a smoking tendency for Mr Schimmer. Then ask him about his work (first option), he will give you whiskey free.
E.g. Cruise Tickets, Blue Jeans, Medal are worth your while.
